Sometimes my redesigns are heavily influenced by my mood. Can you tell what mood I was in when I was working on her?
When I picked up this piece, she needed a lot of help.
Yuck!
After heavy duty cleaning, sanding, and priming, my first thought was to give her a simple crackled finish, with, of course, some added detail. I applied roses and a chandelier design.
Yes, Yes, I know. I could have stopped here and she would have been really cute. Somehow though, I just wasn't content. However, I wasn't quite sure where I wanted her to end up.
So, being the quirky artistic type that I am, I decided to take a break until inspiration struck.
Now, I'm a big superhero fan, and so are my husband and two teen sons. When other little girls were having tea parties, I was jumping off porches with a sheet tied around my neck. So, yesterday we headed out to see THOR on opening day.
Well, the movie was a blast! Visually stunning and loads of fun! When I got home, I was supercharged and feeling rather dramatic. So, I took another look at my subject and decided to take her over the top with a time worn finish.
I layered on more paint, stain and brews, wiping and reapplying as I went along. I then sanded through the layers and now she is....
loaded with personality, patina....
enhanced detail....
and, like myself, a bit of a DRAMA QUEEN
Check back soon to see where my mood takes me next.
I love it Rosemary, your work is gorgeous.
