I took a look in the garage the other day, and realized I should probably get going on a few chair projects. I currently have 14 arm chairs and approximately 9 stools and benches piled up. Today I finished this frenchy chair.
The before.
A little too dark and heavy, and I was not feeling the fabric at all. However, it was only $10.00.
Starting with a white primer, I drybrushed multiple layers of GESSO in white, grey, and my custom mix
My final layer was a light brush of white. I honestly don't remember how many layers I applied. I recovered the seat in a nubby fabric, followed by a striped linen towel down the center. I purchased a basket full of these towels at an auction earlier in the year, and I think this one works perfectly with this chair.
More candidates await, including a line of stools and benches. Not sure about painting this chair.
I may just change the fabric. I kinda like the wood. Hmmmmm....., what do you think?

Hi Rosemary, ur chair look fabulous, as does all the other pieces u add ur special touch to...I would paint the other one, then again, im partial to white, or any painted furniture. Dont much care for dark wood. Thanks for the visit and the comment. To answer ur question, yeppers the shabby style/color scheme will remain the same, i still have work to do on the table, though im not totally sure that im even keeping the table. It may be alittle large for the space...but i just re-done those chairs so ide really like to keep it. Oh, what's a girl to do...............LOL, Bonnie
ReplyDeleteYummy Rosemary, that chair is fabulous, love the seat! I'm finishing up a chair (not 15) whew! once again I've been influenced by your genius. I'll post soon. I think that chair would look great painted, but right now I'd paint the moon if I could reach it lol.
ReplyDeletehi Rosemary, I love the look of the chair. I'm loving the grain sack too. beautiful transformation.
ReplyDeleteHere is what I think...you are good! I love the chair's new finish but I love the towel down the center of the seat.

Oh, this turned out beautifully! The towel down the middle? Genius!
ReplyDeleteI have a chair I am redoing that had the same before fabric as yours, must have really been in style at one time! I would paint the wood...glossy wood does not do it for me. But you know the piece and have to feel what it should have let it "talk" to you!
ReplyDeleteSherry

another gorgeous frenchy redo! love the seat on this one, rosemary!
ReplyDeleteIt turned out beautifully! I love the fabric!
ReplyDeleteas to your question on the second chair...YES, save the wood...what a refreshing change that would make.
ReplyDeleteas i follow through the blogs...it is almost like the paint fumes have gone to everyones head...and nothing, and i mean NOTHING is off limits anymore...every piece of wood is smothered in paint...no-one wants to let the wood shind and show its inner beauty anymore.
i have a feeling that in a few years we will be looking back and thinking "why did i pant that??" and buyers will be saying, "gosh this is great, if i could just get it stripped down to its lovely natural self!"
This is beautiful! I just did one sort of like this.
ReplyDeleteLove your chair makeover...and the towel looks great covering the cushion.
ReplyDeleteI love this chair!!! *wow* :D

Hi Everyone,
ReplyDeleteI am REALLY likeing the Gresso look on this blog. I found this blog last night and ran out and bought Gresso today.
I need HELP!!! It was VERY ahrd to squeeze out of the bottle. It was difficule to brush on anything. It did not feel like paint. Is it suppose to? Am I suppose to buy the Gresso Primer? I added water, but that did not feel right either.
Any ideas, Rosemary?
Thanks,
Jeanie
