After making a few changes, I decided to do my nesting tables in white.
The before.
I loved the shape, but what I didn't like were the tiny trim pieces on top. I didn't think they were substantial enough, and one of the pieces was broken. So, I just removed them all, and added a larger, ornate backsplash.
It makes a much better statement now. I started with grey primer, and did multiple layers of washing and drybrushing with white gesso and paint.
I like it in black and white too.

I think you are probably right about that piece being a smoking stand. I never thought of that and it makes the most sense. A lightbulb went on when I read your comment and I'm sure I've seen something similar years ago. I love how your nesting tables turned out, that beautiful trim really sets it all off!
