I gave you a teaser at the end of my last post. So, what was I working on? Something you can hang on the wall.
I saved the back board from a gessoed frame. I gave it three coats of gesso. After it was dry, I transferred the image with my Splendid Blender. Tutorial here.
Transferring images onto painted surfaces can be a little tricky. I can give you a few tips, but you really have to just practice. I would suggest perfecting your technique on a sample first. Flat paint works best. Sand the surface a little for a sharper image. Don't rub the pen forever, or you may release the paint. If you decide to use a sealer, make sure it is completely dry. It will help if you sand the image a little to get rid of excess residue from the pen.
Here is another redesign using paint/gesso and a transfer.
This is part of my nesting tables, I'll be adding cherubs to the other two.
I have a cherub theme going here.
There are even more options, but I'll save them for future posts.
Remember, this is a trial and error technique. Certain brands of paint may have an effect on your image, there may be strings of ink when you lift your print, etc. Practice, practice, practice.
More redesigns await.

Beautiful Rosemary, they are all gorgeous pieces!
ReplyDeleteI am in awe Rosemary! Love it! I went to Michael's Craft Store to find a Splendid Blender Pen and they unfortunately never heard of them. Do you know of any other places to purchase them, or are they sold under different names? Would love any info you could share.
ReplyDeleteBlessings & Hugs,
Karen
Couldn't you just pinch those little cherub bums, lol. Very nice work, as usual!
ReplyDeleteLovely! I'm definitely checking out your splendid blender tutorial, and some of the furniture you do.

This makes me think you have a whole lot more talent than I do. Good job!
ReplyDeleteThese look great and I just wanted to say thanks for sharing your blender pen tutorial with everyone (sorry I should have commented on the actual post but got distracted at the time :D). I can't wait to try this method out and was happy to learn it worked from using a laserjet printer and not inkjet (we just changed to laserjet and for some reason I didn't think transfers would work with it).
ReplyDeleteThanks for being so creative...and generous!
