Marble Tops

I shared a granite top piece recently. Today, it's marble.


I have two.



This is where I started.



These tables have lots of layers on them. I started with a grey primer. Followed by a mix of gesso, and spackling paste (tutorial coming).  This mix gave it a lot of texture. I then gave it a coat of a white gesso/paint mix, and finished with a wash of watered down soft grey.


The marble was cracked.



I used a high performance glue, which expands and creates a very tight bond.



I removed the excess, and sanded it smooth. I bonded the marble inside the openings as well.

    They look great, Rosemary! I just did a piece that has a marble top, too, and I really wanted to work with it. It's in great shape and I am glad I was able to find a paint color I liked that goes with the marble.

    Hi Rosemary,

    You have done a beautiful job on those tables. I love the finish and what an expert you are on how to bond marble! Was the marble on the tables already cracked when you purchased them? I never knew you could repair marble. I love marble especially the grey and white veined.

    THE TABLES ARE ADORABLE. WHAT A GREAT IDEA TO USE THE GLUE TO FILL THE CRACK. IT WORKED OUT WONDERFUL..

    Oh, I love marble even more than granite and this is a very pretty colour. I would not have known you could glue OR sand marble. Another teaching moment.
