Nice Details

Nice details. That's what I thought when my husband brought this piece home.



However, that is all I thought, because the first thing I saw was this.



What am I going to do with the top? Then he pulled out this.



That's right, the original beautiful piece of granite. I wanted to create a nice contrast with the base, so I gave it several dry brush coats of my 50/50 mix of white gesso and paint. I left the hardware untouched, to compliment the dark top.













I have more furniture to get to, and I'll share an old world finish I've been playing with.  It's a three part mix that creates a great effect.

    It's beautiful...but, I bet it weighs a ton!! I have my second coat of gesso on a project right now, looks like I will have to do a third coat. It is such weird stuff, it has the consistency of glue!

    I was wondering if you sand and/or strip the finish from your pieces such as this ornate desk with the marble top before you apply your gesso and paint mix to the piece.     Hi Rosemary, You're my new discovery and you do some amazing things. I'm fascinated by the use of gesso and I wondered if it leaves a fragile surface, more like plaster and it might be easily chipped or damaged? I have only used it to restore frames not for painting furniture and this was my concern. It looks so beautiful! x
