Numbered Bling

Here is what I did with the numbered wood pieces I showed you a couple of posts back.

I found an incomplete box of vintage dominoes  at a garage sale earlier this year.

I wasn't sure what I was going to do with them at the time.  However, when I came across them last week,  I immediately saw potential tags/Christmas ornaments.  So, I drilled a hole, and blasted them with glitter spray.  I attached twine from some price tags I had.

The colors are very festive, made even more so with a bit of sparkle.

Tags, ornaments, even just hanging in a row.

I've been adding a little bling to quite a few things for Christmas.  I think I may have too many ideas swirling in my head.  I'll be sharing.  See ya soon.

Two Carriers, Two Looks, and Another Bottle

I finished two carriers today.  Each has a different look, but they both involved white gesso.  This first one was just a simple wood carrier with a metal handle.  A little too simple.  So, I added appliques, gave  it multiple layers of gesso, lightly distressed it, and applied a numeral.  I thought about doing a heavy distressed look, but changed my mind.  It seems happy this way.

This next carrier started as a sewing machine drawer.

I dry brushed gesso on this one, and attached vintage handles.  The interior was given a grey wash.  In the area of the missing knob, I used filler, and inserted one of my numbered tacks.

The applique was already there.  The wash brought out the details.

I found the handles in my stash.  They fit perfectly.

Yes, I made another Christmas bottle.  I used the same technique seen here, but distressed this one a little.

Two carriers, two looks, and another bottle.   I show you what I did with the teaser from my last post next time.

A Little Christmas Joy

Christmas will be here before you know it, and I'm in the zone.  Here is a piece did today.  Sorry, I don't have a photo of the bottle before I covered it with silver and glitter spray.

Aside from the little vintage bottle, I used a metal star,

and my trusty vintage rubber stamps.

It's supported by a composition cherub I gave a silver treatment to as well.

Gotta make more of these.

For a colorful Christmas idea, check back to see what I did with these.

Silver and White

I'll be using a lot of  silver and white this Christmas.  Yesterday, I was playing around with the top of my chippy cabinet. I don't have a fireplace mantel, but I have surfaces around the house I'll be dressing up.  I  wanted a festive spot to look at in my studio, and silver and white say festive to me.   I just grabbed a few things I already had and altered some of it.

In my last post you saw what looked like a crown.

This is actually part of a light fixture that I dry brushed with gesso,

and inserted one of my silver roses in the top.

I've been finding quite a few items in my stash that remind me of a crown.  Like this cup holder.  I shared this in an earlier post.  It was gold.  I painted it nickel silver.

One of my doves made it over to next in lavender.  Yes, I'm using lavender in my Christmas decor.  Why not?

A lamp fragment was painted white, and serves as a pedestal.  Do you recognize that piece holding the lavender? It's the base of a footstool I shared here. I removed the cushion and turned it upside down.  Hmmm, it's sorta crown like too.

My "snow" is gauze.  I may sprinkle a little glitter on it.

Like I said, this may not be traditional Christmas decor, but I like it.  So, the top of my chippy cabinet has gone from this,

to this.

My angel bell gives my little mantel on the other side of the studio a festive feel.

and I'm incorporating my other ideas seen here around the house.

I'll be sharing as everything comes together.

The Other Half

I know I said I was going to rest today, but I wanted to quickly show you what I did with the other half of the burlap sack I used on the stool you saw in my post  "Back to Work".

I used it on this footstool.

The fabric was shot, but I liked the crackle finish.

So, I left the finish, and reused the trim.  I carefully removed the trim.  Then, I just clipped the frays on the original fabric and hot glued the burlap right over the top.  After evening out the edges with a little more clipping, I used hot glue to reattach the trim.

Isn't it cute?  Okay, now I'm really going to rest. I'm kicking back and checking out what some of you have been up to.

ETSY

Just a quick note to let you all know that, I have opened my Etsy shop.  So many of you have inquired about me doing so.  I have a tendency to overthink things sometimes.  So, I finally stopped thinking, and just did it.  I'll be adding finds, and redesigns all week.

See ya soon.

Trying not to work too hard today.  IT'S MY BIRTHDAY

Rack Attack

I've been making more racks.  While digging through my stash of fragments and such, I came across a vintage drawer front, vintage hooks with a soft green patina, molding, and more hooks.  The drawer front was one of those pieces I knew I would eventually find a use for.  I loved the weathered paint, crackling, and the floral decal.

This is where I started.

I thought about filling in the hole where the knob was, but decided to stagger a third hook.  The colors work perfectly together.

I left the evidence of it's former life by just sanding the rough edges, and sealing the back.

Love it.  A rack that was meant to be.

Next, a piece of molding.  This was one long piece that I sawed in half.  The color was already there, I just gave it a good sanding to distress.

I added another one of my decorative back plates followed by a numbered tack.  I used the same combo on my "villabarnes" carrier seen here.

Finally, I attached two long hooks.  I'll be doing the same thing with the other piece.

No painting on either of these.  Just a little re-imagining.
