I worked on a LOT of furniture this past summer, and into fall. I shared quite a bit with you. However, while going through my photos, I realized that there were many I hadn't shared, or only gave you a glimpse of. Here are some before and afters, only afters, and what I did to each. I also have a question for you at the end.
I went through about three colors on this piece before just deciding on my white gesso finish.
A pair of stands. Multiple layers of gesso/soft blue paint, and glaze. The hardware was painted silver, and glazed as well.
A broken table. I repaired it, and applied multiple layers of gesso/paint in soft blue.
A chippy stand. The paint was very loose. I gave it a good sanding to smooth it out, and added an applique.
While I'm on the subject of furniture, here is a piece my husband brought home recently. I love that man.
I'm planning to replace my current desk with it. However, as much as I love the shape, the shiny finish is driving us both a little nuts. Would you paint this? Not sure what I'm going to do yet. I'll keep you posted.

oh i love the chippy stand and the color on the second pair!
ReplyDeleteand i would love your husband too if he brought home pieces like that!!!
Beautiful pieces Rosemary. I think I would paint the base of the desk and leave the top. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteWow, the furniture is amazing. I think it is very shiny. It would be wonderful grey and waxed.
ReplyDeleteOh I love the shape of that desk. I say sure, go ahead and paint it if you're not loving it the way it is.
ReplyDeleteI for one KNOW how much work goes into all that you do!! Please know that everything looks absolutely awesome and you can see that your hard work has paid off!
ReplyDeleteTake care, Sue
You might want to get a rag...I just drooled on your computer! Oh, it was my computer while looking at this beautiful furniture.
ReplyDeleteI love the before and afters...you do a wonderful job of painting. As for the desk, I think it would look amazing painted.
ReplyDeleteEverything looks gorgeous! I especially love the two green night stands!

did you use the citrasolve to put the design on the top ? can you just wax over that or does it smear? thanks, ive been wanting to try this forever!!
ReplyDeleteHi Rosemary,
ReplyDeleteAllof your projects I love. The little round table and the real chippy stand are my favorites. Do you keep everything you do or sale some of it. You amaze me at what you get done. I love the lines of the table, but the shine would bug me too. I would definately paint it. You will have it whipped into a beauty in no time. I bought a narrow sofa table at a yard sale for $20. I want to paint it and try doing a graphic like you did. Not sure when I'll get around to it. Best of luck with the desk.
Ok, CRAZY about that desk over here!
ReplyDeleteThe green nightstands are pretty darn cute, too! I happen to have one exactly like it sitting in my warehouse right now. Too funny! I came across it just last weekend!
Can't wait to see what you do to that desk!
Mary
Love the paint jobs you've done. Gorgeous!!
ReplyDeletethe soft blue on the couple of pieces is so pretty...and I like the table in the first image in white..that is probably the best color as it will be more versatile..and as far as the desk is concerned, someone could strip it years from now if it's painted..so I say go ahead and have it the way you want it..
ReplyDeletebest,
maureen
Rosemary, your furniture pieces are just gorgeous! YES, totally paint the desk, it will be soooo pretty!
ReplyDeleteHi Rosemary,
ReplyDeleteI love the finishes you have used on all the pieces. As for the desk...I don't know what I would do? When I did my table base and chairs, I left my table top and chair seats natural and did the finish on the chairs and table base. I liked the look better than painting the top.
Sigh...decisions, decisions! LOL
Kris
All your stuff is great! I love the finishes. However, to be honest, even if the piece is shiny, I'd either leave it or see if I could strip it and refinish in a satin sheen. I'd think I'd regret painting it, and sometimes you need wood mixed in with painted pieces. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteI have no doubt that you can paint that desk and make it more spectacular than it is now. Really enjoyed seeing the before and afters. It is inspiring.
ReplyDeleteAll of them are gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThe white painted furniture is a beautiful classic, and the soft blue is gorgeous! I say paint the desk. How about trying a wood stain top and painted base? Whatever you decide, it will be fabulous.
ReplyDeleteYour project always come out great, love the pair of tables. Laura
ReplyDeleteMy heart skipped a beat when I saw your new table. It is fabulous! Since the wood is now working for you paint it - it is what you excel at. Looking forward to seeing what you decide.
ReplyDeleteWow, you have been busy! I adore your talent.
ReplyDeleteGreat paint jobs, all pieces furniture looks gorgeous:-)
ReplyDeleteHugs, Biljana
Your hubby has a good eye! I can see he's been well trained...LOL I agree with someone who thought the desk would look good with a gray wash and then some wax. it would complement the silver (?) colored embellishments on the legs. I redid a leather topped desk and covered it in French paper attached with ModPodge and then some clear finish. You might want a glass piece in the center if you are going to use it heavily but that look would certainly fit your style...just a thought. You don't really need advice though...you are impeccable in your taste.
ReplyDeleteI always love looking at your transformations! You have been busy, busy, busy!

Hooooollly mooollly, Rosemary! Where do you live anyway? Near furniture heaven...???? Where do you find this awesome stuff??? I would love to see that same multiple technique on your new desk that you did on the 2 stands. LUV that look!

It's amazing what you've made of all tired pieces. They all look so good that I can't pick a favourite.
ReplyDeleteThe new desk seem to have tons of potensial as well, would love something similar. But that type of furniture is more or less impossible to get here in Norway.
Wish you a good weekend!
You have some beautiful pieces there! I love all of them. The desk your hubby found for you is gorgeous. I can't tell you with 100% accuracy what you should do to it without seeing it in the room it is going to be used in, but just looking at it by itself it is very pretty. I don't think it would look bad either way. I think it's just according to how it will look in the room.
ReplyDeleteO Rosemary well it goes without saying you know how much I love your treasured finds and what yo do to them is best.
ReplyDeleteThank you girl for visiting me and putting up with all the photos, it was brave of me to post so many and really made me a bit uncomfortable to say the least.
It truly is friends like you that support my quirkiness and the language I speak for all my pieces that you come visit and I smile when I read such heartfelt comments on my pieces or art, its ones like you that make me brave enough to post and then cringe after I hit publish wondering if anyone will get or understand who I am all about ?
Thank you from the edges of my heart for your beautiful support.
O about that desk, it would be sanded down naked first for me, then if it looks like a driftwood grain sack color I may leave it that way like a few pieces in my home, if not it would have to just be painted in a eggshell/satin finish of a gray, a dirty french steal grey! and rubbed off areas to have that touch of hand as if it had worn off from to much letter writting :) there you go GRAY it IS!
xoxo

They are all beautiful! I especially love the little round table. As far as the desk; I say paint it (and I'm jealous you have a husband that brings you such cool pieces!)

Absolutely gorgeous transformations! I love them all! I'm not sure what I would with the desk - it is so beautiful! I love the curvy shape :)
ReplyDeleteJennelise
Every piece got their own personality and every piece "I SO LOVE THEM ALL."

You have such an eye for this. Everything you touch and redo simply amazes me. Especially love those frenchy side tables.
ReplyDeleteYour furniture makeovers are always so amazingly beautiful
ReplyDeleteDanielle
Rosemary you always find the best darn furniture pieces!...But I think you hubby can give you a run for the money! *winks* He bought you a bureau plat?!! I could scream! That's one of my dream pieces and a HUGE NOOOOO to painting it!!! It's a classic french style piece and you really should leave it alone...Or better yet send it to me *winks* Vanna
ReplyDeleteThe table I use for my laptop is very similar to this one Rosemary. I just left it how I found it as it has a very faded, muted and chippy handpainted scene along the apron pieces. I'm sure you will come up with something fabulous for yours! ~Lili
ReplyDeleteHi Rosemary,
ReplyDeleteI love all the new painted wood.
The desk is beautiful. I love all the details on it. I'd paint it to fit in with your decor.
