I applied multiple layers of black paint first. I then followed with two coats of white paint, to which I added a thickening agent. Next, I gave it a little sanding, to show the undercoat, and highlight the fleur de lis.
It makes the fleur de lis look like it's embedded in the surface.
After stamping "Fleurs" with black archival ink, I sealed the surface with wax.

ReplyDeleteVery nice. Ah... and more to come, that's great. Love the sign.
ReplyDeleteI'm really loving the dimension of the thickened paint and wood filler embellishment. It gives things a look of authenticity that you can't get with paint alone. ~ Maureen

This is so pretty. I'm curious if you have a Cajun background because you use the fleurs de lis occasionally. I love it! Very pretty.

ReplyDeleteSuch a pretty sign! You did a fabulous job.
ReplyDeleteHi! I found you from These Peas Taste Funny & Seven Alive's linky party. I love fleur de lis's because they were my HS mascot. I happened to see in one of your comments someone saying that they need to get to IL so I look at your profile and saw St. Charles, IL...that's where my hubby and I grew up! How neat! All of our family still lives there, we now live in SC. Such a small world! :-)

Beautiful! What did you use to thicken the paint? Gesso? Spackle? I'm new at this. Thanks.
