Embracing Imperfection

I can't find the before photo of this table.  I think I may have deleted it by accident.

I've had this table for a while.  It was in very sad shape.  The top had loose veneer, and there were gouges all over the place. I glued the veneer, and painted it.  Still, I wasn't really happy with it.  So, I was just using it as a table for display.

See those swoopy lines?  If you've been with me since the beginning, you know I don't care for those.  I usually tone them down a bit with a little filler.  Which is what I did with "Feminine Flair" last year.

So, I decided to give the table a few more layers (including filler), add a little embellishment, and embrace the imperfections.  Before I gave it a base coat of black, I added appliques,

beading to the edge,

and the legs.

Then I alternated layers of dark and light grey paint, wiping back each layer before it dried. Perfectly imperfect, with a bit of character.

  9. Oooh, she's lovely, Rosemary! I think it makes for a great display table anyway given its size. It's probably easier to get around with you to shows, too.

  18. Nice job. I have this table and yes, mine still has the plain chippy laminate on it. Was going to restore it, but kind of like it as is. Yours looks great.

  20. Absolutely beautiful, Rosemary! I just adore the imperfections - and your amazing embellishments increase the WOW factor. :) What do you use for beading? Would Christmas decor beading work....?
