The more I looked at it, the more it looked like my "Old World Finish", with rust peeking through.
So, that's pretty much what I did to get my faux oxidation. Only I watered down my white paint/gesso mix, and I didn't rub it off. I let it settle.
However, you will never get the exact same effect twice. The end result will have a lot to do with what you are starting with, and how much you practice. Rust, and imperfections help. You should also clean and dry your piece first.
I watered down the paint on the first box more than the second one. How thick the "faux" oxidation will be, just depends on how much water you add, how many layers you apply, blah, blah, blah. So, you can take this,
Now, I do have other oxidation techniques, but I won't be sharing them. Why? Partly because they involve chemicals, and scary stuff. Plus, well....I can't share ALL my secrets.
I love the look of oxidized metal with flowers.
My Autumn Joy is changing colors. Looking forward to Fall, cause it was hot and humid here today. See ya soon.
Looks great I have some gesso I'll have to give it a go xxx

Love the plants and the bucket. I do understand about the chemicals. Plus you must keep some of your secrets for yourself.

ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing those great tips on getting a faux oxidation look, Rosemary! Yours looks amazing. I knew that had to be your project when I saw the thumbnail over at "Wow Us Wednesday".
ReplyDeleteYou are more brave than I am--I did the acid mirror thing once...love the effect but feel lucky I didn't end up in the emergency room. Your technique shared here seems safe:)
ReplyDeleteI got my giveaway today--thank you so much! I love it! I posted about it. :)
I love the technique you used on your boxes Rosemary. Thank you for sharing what you do with us.

I am always fascinated with how you create your treasures! I love the look of the sedum in the bucket. Very pretty!
ReplyDeleteWell, however you do it, it looks great, Rosemary! Your sedum looks wonderful. I used to love to see the colors start to change on mine {at the old house}. I hope the ones I've seen around the condo community survived this horrible Summer.
ReplyDeleteI have got to try gesso one day soon, you make everything look so fabulous!
ReplyDeleteLove the flowers with your restyle.
Looks great and thanks for introducing me to gesso. Mine are beginning to change color too. I'm actually ready for the seasons to change. Cant believe I'm saying that.
ReplyDeleteThat oxidation is awesome Rosemary. I love that.
ReplyDeleteLooks great!

Love your works of art...including all the aging!
ReplyDeleteRosemary I love galvanized anything :)
ReplyDeleteI just picked up an old bucket myself sad that it had a bit of a crushed dent at the bottom, but still a beauty. So now that I have seen what you have created it gives galvanize a whole new twist.
Those wine boxes make for great holiday gifting ...a little filler a bottle of wine some cheeses in the other side wrapped up in clear wrap and you have a gift a winery would be proud to sell.
This is an inspiring piece. You may find me inspired enough to try one of my own.
Thank you dear friend for making it over to check out my holiday over at my place, means so much to me to see and hear from you, your comments touch the edges of my heart :)
Have a beautiful week.
xoxo
