Why am I sharing it now? Well, it kinda represents what I want to do with my decor. Not necessarily what's in it, but the simplicity of it. It may surprise you to know that I'm borderline minimalist. That's right. You wouldn't know it by the piles of stuff I've been surrounded by lately, or my abyss of a garage, but I prefer a paired down decor.
I've been working on liberating myself from the clutter these last few days, and it's allowed me to think clearly. IMAGINE THAT. In order to focus on finishing my living room, I had to focus on getting rid of the clutter that crept up on me, while I focused on working.
I suppose that's one of the reasons I enjoy taking simple close-up shots like this. There's something very peaceful about it.
I've always considered my style eclectic. However, I think I have a better definition. "Vintage Minimalism". I still love my weathered finishes. Like my aged pieces. So, there will be a bit of that.
My crown, which everyone seems to love will be incorporated. Literally, and as inspiration.
So, now that I've pushed the clutter out, I should be finishing up my "Vintage Minimalist" living room in the next few days. The simplicity of it may surprise you, but that's what I like. Simplicity.

Cleaning out the clutter is a great thing. Simplicity is too. Good for you.
ReplyDeleteI always enjoy your blog and your photography is great......so inspiring.
ReplyDeleteWell done!
ReplyDelete3000 years of Feng Shui - perhaps- isn't so wrong after all?
: - )
Getting rid of excess clutter certainly makes a body, mind and soul just feel "clearer" doesn't it?
I became a minimalist over a year ago....de-cluttering and loving it! Can't wait to see more or should I say more-less? Roxie
ReplyDeleteYou have me intrigued. I'm leaning toward simpler these days but I'm no minimalist. Your pics are always so pretty it's always a pleasure visiting Villa Barnes.
ReplyDeleteI think a minimalist look can be very clean and inviting. I love to see a variety of styles!
ReplyDeleteI love the uncluttered look too, but somehow it eludes me. I can't wait to see what you do, Rosemary. You're always an inspiration.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean, Rosemary! I can't work or even think if I'm surrounded by clutter. It makes me crazy! I like a lot of things but don't like them all in the same place! I love your finishes and I think that your "new" living room will be beautiful! Can't wait to see the results! Hugs, Leena
ReplyDeleteI so need to declutter and store some things. I have a hard time doing that and keep adding to my decorating. Thanks for posting.
ReplyDeleteClearing the clutter is the first thing I need to do in order to move ahead. Love your beautiful pictures...close up and full of detail.
ReplyDeleteI love simplicity too Rosemary, but for some reason in my own decor it never stays very simple. I guess I just love too many things.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait t oseewhat you've come up with:-)

Hi Rosemary,
ReplyDeleteI am sure it will be gorgeous! I love the slightly minimalist look but can't seem to do it. Just love to collect too many things! Every time I try to dejunk I just turn around and junk it back up. lol!
Hugs,
Jann
When I started my kitchen redo, the first job was decluttering. It took two days to get rid of junk and scrib everything down! Can't wait to see what you have designed. ~ Maureen
ReplyDeleteBelieve it or not..I love simple too. I just have a hard time sticking to it. I like clean, and simple is so much easier when it comes to dusting and stuff. I can't wait to see your livingroom. I love the desk. That crown is awesome--I think we all want one of those!
ReplyDeleteMe encanta tu blog, soy seguidora tuya, aunque nunca te hecho comentario porque no sé ingles, tienes un gusto exquisito y todo lo que pones me parece precioso
ReplyDeleteTraductor google.
I love your blog, I am a follower of yours, but you never actually comment because I know English, you have exquisite taste and put everything I find beautiful.
looking forward to seeing the "new look" Rosemary. I can't think with a lot of clutter around either. :) Have a fun and wonderful week. :) xo
ReplyDeleteI believe you have surprised me...I would never have guessed..minimalism? Hummm. With all the elaborate pieces you work on? Humm. I will be looking forward to seeing what you have created. I would love to do minimalism...I just don't think it will happen in this lifetime!
ReplyDeleteYou are a delightful surprise today my friend. Love that crown. xo, olive
ReplyDeleteYou know what, I am a minimalist too,and I love it. I decided years ago to get rid of things I don't use, have not used, don't fit, too big, to little and etc. With that being said, I ended up giving a lot of things to the homeless. So for me, less is more, simplicity is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI like simplicity also, and I like your term Vintage Minimalism, so shabby, vintage and minimalism can go together!Wonderful!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed this post. Sorry I have been out of the loop lately, Hurricane Sandy took a blast at NJ. We are fine we just had not power and heat for over a week and no internet for two but we feel lucky.
ReplyDeleteCynthia
I love simplistic as well but can never achieve it....I see something that I like and I bring it home. Speaking of stuff I like. I received my items last week and I LOVE them. Thank you so much. I did a post on them

I can't wait to see it. I love simplicity, but also love vignettes/collections placed around as a showcase. A bit of both, I guess.
ReplyDeleteGreat post. I know whatever you do will be wonderful!!

Simple clean lines with that Rosemary touch - I cannot wait until you reveal your new room.
ReplyDeleteFinally a name for my style! Thank You Rosemary! I love vintage but do not care for clutter at all, it makes me crazy! I have thought of my style more eclectic, but Vintage Minimalist sounds better!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see!
ReplyDelete(And I love that crown too!)
There is so much beauty and peacefulness in a simple or minimalist decor! Anxious to see your finished room.

Rosemary, I just love how you said you were a borderline minimalist and yet you are surrounded by lots of stuff. You described me to a "T." I yearn to have a simplistic look in my home also, but somehow I can't seem to restrain myself from a good vintage find or something else I find irresistible.
ReplyDeleteI'll be anxious to see where you go with your vintage minimalist look.
