Festive Burlap Bag

I picked up this burlap bag at a garage sale earlier this year.

but it didn't look like this.  It had a logo on one side,

and was blank on the other.  I gave it a little makeover.

First I covered the logo with a strip of webbing.

Then, I added the little winter scene to the other side.

DISCLAIMER: This may not work with all printers. This may harm your printer if you try it. The possibility for a jam is extremely high.

That being said, I obviously didn't care about any of these facts, and did it anyway.  Luckily, it worked for me.

I used my fabric printing technique on burlap for the image. That's right, I ran a piece of burlap through my printer.  Sorry, I don't have a photo for every step, but here's what I did.  I went over the burlap with a lint brush about a hundred times to get rid of as many fibers as I could.  Then, I ironed it to flatten it out.  Next, I cut it to size, and attached it to a transparency sheet.  You know, the plastic stuff.   I used repositionable stencil adhesive to attach it.  After printing, I attached the piece to the bag with Stitch Witchery.

Done.  Simple, and a bit festive with greenery.

I have lots of other ideas to execute, and cleaning to do.  See ya soon.

  1. I would love to try printing on fabric, but with my luck my printer would probably jam. LOL! Your bag came out great though. I love it filled with the branches.

  4. Sweet bag. Not sure my finicky printer will accommodate burlap. It does a nice job on muslin, though.

  5. You are so clever! I would never in a million years think to run fabric through a printer. I am loving all your Xmas ideas. And your pretty living room. The crown on the tree is perfect as I come to think of it as your trademark!

  6. What a great image, Rosemary! I could see something stenciled on the webbing, too. I haven't done fabric in any of our printers. I'm too afraid something will happen and then I'll never hear the end of it!

  8. I can't believe the burlap went through the printer but yes it
worked and looks beautiful. I had to fight with my printer just today. Used Parchment paper and it jammed but I got it out.. and did it again. Parchment will take the ink and then you just rub the design with a credit card and it go's on the fabric really well... but I might give your idea a try.. love it!

  15. Hmmmmm, I have a brand new printer, so would be afraid to try it on that, but I haven't tossed the old one yet so I may keep it around Love the bag, Rosemary and it is so nice to catch up with you, again :)

  16. That is so cute! Love your disclaimer. I've done muslin through my printer before and never had an issue. Your strapping to hide the logo was genius.
