Framed Cherub Plaques and Pop-Up Market

I've been creating clay cherub plaques,

and, framing them with some of my small metal frames.

I've molded the cherubs with white clay, and, cut them to fit the frames. I'm listing some on Zibbet, and taking some to the pop-up market.

This is the same market I set up at last year.  Looking forward to seeing my locals.

I'm also working out details for upcoming endeavors.  I'll share soon.

Altered Bottle

I'm playing with some of my vintage bottles.

I added a little extra age to 1800's ledger page fragments with my own antiquing solution, and decoupaged it.  This is the back.

I used one of my rusty metal crowns on top.  It fits snugly, but, I didn't attach it permanently. It's more of a decorative adornment.

We are getting hit with MORE snow.

I'm just gonna hibernate, and, create.

Rust, Patina, and Keeping Busy

I have so much to keep me busy this winter.  My stash of metal goes on, and, on.

That includes keys.  I have hundreds of them.

The past few days, I've been experimenting a bit with finishes. I used a variety of mediums on them, to get the look you see here. 

I like the results.  Rust, patina, and, variations of color.

While I played with keys, I decided to make some of my mini crowns.  

Cutting, and, manipulating salvaged metal is one of my favorite things to do.

Of course, I love to make them look like excavated relics too.

Things are about to get really busy around here.  I'll be doing a pop-up market next month, and, other shows throughout the year.

Tin Can Transformation

I decided to "Old World" a tin can today.

I gave it a good cleaning, and, covered the surface with glue.  Yes, just plain, slightly watered down white glue.

By the way, between each layer of what I'm about to show you, I used a blow dryer. Cause, I'm impatient.

After drying the glue, I used acrylic paint.  I shared a while back how glue acts as a crackle medium.  You can review that post HERE.  I'm using it between each of the following layers.

Next, another layer of glue.  I just glopped it on this time.

I brushed on a couple layers of homemade gesso, followed by more drying.

This is the gesso recipe from the Farragoz course. You can use acrylic paint, but, it won't crack the same way, or, have the same texture.

This is a nice look, and, some of you may want to stop right here.

I kept going, with a wash of grey (watered down grey), and,

another sloppy layer of gesso.  The imperfect application is what gives you this look. You can still see the layers of color underneath, and cracks.

While drying the last layer, I thought it might need a little something extra.

I painted this leaf a while ago, using similar colors, but, a different technique.  It makes a nice addition.

I threaded a nail through,

and, bent it.  Right now, it's just hanging on the side.  I may attach it later.

A few of my tissue flowers, and, I was done.

I hope all of you who are experiencing a brutal winter, like myself, are keeping safe and warm.  I took this shot yesterday.  Check out the icicles.

Another Vase, and, Keeping Busy

Despite being a little under the weather, I'm still keeping busy.  I thought you might like to see the vase I gave you a peek at in my last post.

It has a different feel than this one, which, sold right away.

Same idea, different design.

More heart designs.  You know, it's funny, I was never big on designing hearts till I made a few, and, started getting requests for them.

This one was made with wood, a vintage metal applique, and, of course, layers of paint to unify it.

I added a hanger to the top center, because,

I made it reversible.  Ornate on one side, and chippy on the other.

We are expecting more snow in these parts.  Guess who'll be curled up inside, playing with paint and such?
