Distressing and Antiquing a Mirror

After my last post, I immediately got emails asking how I distressed my mirrored tray.

I thought to myself, "Didn't they see my post on ..........?"  Sorry, sometimes I forget that quite a few of you are new readers, and, that it's been nearly two years since I shared how I used bleach to distress a mirror. You can refer to that post by clicking HERE.


HOWEVER, I've used a multitude of chemicals to get various effects on the silvering.

I gave this next mirror a crackle look.  I WON'T be sharing THIS particular technique, because, it's one of my unorthodox methods that's not for the inexperienced. You can do serious damage to yourself, if you're not careful.  

I don't want to get into a bunch of disclaimers, precautions, warnings, etc., and, still hear that someone set their hair on fire, or passed out.

I was also asked what type of paper I used, and, where I decoupaged the paper.

Okay, the rose paper is vintage craft paper.  You can use pretty much any craft paper, wallpaper, book page, thin fabric, decorative tissue, etc.  After you distress the mirror, the paper is decoupaged, face up, directly to the underside of the mirror.

I did the same thing with script paper on this little mirror.

I hope that answered some of your questions.

Mirrored Tray Transformation

I pick up mirrored trays all the time.

You know the ones.

I've had so many over the years.  I usually end up transforming them in some way.  Well, that's what I did to this one.

After distressing the silvering on the mirror, I decoupaged vintage rose paper to the back, and, painted the frame.

I think I'll do a few variations on some of the other ones I have.

Shopping Cart Love

My latest find.

A vintage metal shopping cart with original paint, and, fabulous patina.  Love it.

It was one of those giddy moments I tried to contain, when I spotted this beauty.

Garage, estate, and, citywide sales are in full swing around here.

I love the thrill of the hunt.  So, I'm raring to go.

Cheese Box Redo and Friends/Customers

If you're a cheese box purist, close your eyes.

Yes, the box above is a cheese box I transformed with clay appliques I made,

and layers of paint.

Now, it's a decorative box that can be used for a multitude of things.

After picking up a bag full of clothespins, I put them in the box to count, and, to organize them.  An idea I got from my friend Sharon, who sells cheese boxes stuffed with clothespins.

Anyway, I liked the way they looked in my newly redesigned box.

My intention was to take it to my next show.  However, my friend Joy, aka Savvy City Farmer, stopped by, and............well, I have to make another one now.

I always love seeing my busy friend. She's also a great customer.

and, Joy, I think I need to get back to work on the load for my next show.

Because, most of what you see here, is gone.

The abyss is looking kinda sparse too.

Two Upcoming Markets

Remember when I said I have a lot coming up?  Well, here are a couple things that will be keeping me busy.

More Pink Milk Glass?

What are the odds????

Remember the somewhat rare Jeannette Shell Pink Milk Glass Butterfly set I found recently?

Well, today, while hubby and I were out cruising for sales, I found a Jeannette Shell Pink Milk Glass Punch Bowl Set.  Happy Dance.

Remember, I rarely buy glass.  However, I couldn't hand the lady my money fast enough for this set.

There's a punch bowl, with stand, 12 cups, and, ladle. Whoop Whoop. It's also in fabulous condition.

Paint, Rust, and Events

I've been playing with paint and rust.

Remember the white iron urn I asked you about recently?

I added a bit more texture, and, color.

I used layers of my homemade paint from the Farragoz course, along with a few tricks of my own. Note the rusty spots.

I gave this birdbath a slightly different look.

Things are getting real busy around here.  I have several events on the horizon.  I'll post all the details soon.

Here are a few of the things that'll be keeping me busy.

1. I'm teaching a painting workshop later this month.
2. I'll be a vendor at the fabulous "Hunt and Gather" market this June, in Crown Point, IN.
3. I'll be selling at my friend Traci's "Three French Hens" market in July.  I'll be teaching a mini workshop at the luncheon that day as well.

Oh, yes.  I'm having a sale this Saturday.
